Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with France's air force in a coordinated attack targeting an underground arms cache in Syrian territory employed by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The site, identified by intelligence, was believed to be containing munitions and bombs, the announcement noted, and was positioned in mountainous terrain just to the north of the historic site of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft utilized Paveway IV guided bombs to strike a number of entry passages leading to the depot... initial indications suggest the strike was effective," the ministry announced.
There was no indication of any civilian casualties in the operation on Saturday evening and all the aircraft made a safe return, the MoD added.
The British jets were assisted by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - also known as the so-called Islamic State - imposed militant control over parts of Syria and Iraq until 2019.
"This strike demonstrates the UK's leading role, and resolve to work closely with our partners, to eradicate any revival of the terrorist group and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the area," Britain's Defence Chief the minister said.
UK warplanes have performed surveillance missions over Syria to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of the group after its routing at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the ministry said.
"I must thank every member of the UK armed forces who took part in this mission for their expertise and their valour," the Defence Secretary said. "They were part of a great many UK service members on duty over the festive period. This action, to take out dangerous terrorists who pose a risk to our safety, demonstrates how UK forces are ready to step up, continuously, ensuring Britain's security at home and strong abroad."
Last December, the American forces executed what it termed a "massive strike" on Islamic State objectives in Syria, subsequent to an attack killed two US troops and a civilian linguist in Palmyra.
The UN estimates Daesh still has an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 fighters in both countries.
