Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior political figure said the attack left him without words and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
